The New Way to Table

Epoxy Furniture: What is it and Why?

For those of you reading this that are not familiar with what epoxy is, it is a two-part adhesive that is formed when one mixes epoxy resin and hardening compound. There are many benefits to utilizing this material in the creation of furniture.  For one it is highly versatile and it has tremendous strength which is why many people use it for DIY projects.  But it is also a great gap filler.  To top all of this off, epoxy can be combined with different color mixtures to create impressions of nature, different tones and even to elicit different emotions out of furniture.  This is what makes epoxy tables and end tables especially unique and desirable.

How it is made?

An epoxy table may seem complicated, and whilst not an easy process to get everything just right, it is certainly not a very complex project.  Making an epoxy table begins by selecting the right wood that one wants to work with and ideally getting two uniquely shaped cuts. The beauty here is that the only requirement for the wood is that it is flat and perfectly angled on the top and bottom of the table, the rest can be filled in by epoxy.  Step two is placing the two pieces of wood into a form for the table, of course the form should be the size and shape that you want your table to be.  The form can be crafted on the stop or it can be purchased, however at Vida we make our own forms due to our experience and our know-how.  The next part is to secure the two pieces of wood, or three if it is your preference and tighten them down to where you want them to be so that they do not move or readjust once you start pouring the epoxy.  After that is all said and done it is time to mix the epoxy and hardening compound and pouring it into the gaps.  Once that is completed it is time to sand and level out all the kinks and level the epoxy with the wood pieces creating a stunning visual.

Beauty, Rarity and Mood

Epoxy tables are truly one of a kind because the pieces of wood used in the manufacturing process are never the same. Additionally the color of the epoxy can be fine tuned to the exact tone and hue that one desires. Epoxy can imitate ocean water, water on the shore, green fluids, blue fluids, orange, yellow and even transparent colors, it can all be done and the designs no matter how complicated or how intricate hold their value due to the extreme durability of the epoxy.  It is a material that has been growing in popularity for various commercial applications and at Vida we are certain that you will fall in love with our amazing creations.  Give us a call today to find out how you can have your unique handcrafted table made to order and to match your current home decor.
